The water quality in the city of Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province has been greatly improved over the last year since the start of a three-year water pollution control action in 2015.
The city's government adopted the strategy of "emphasis first, sewage first and upstream first" to deal with water pollution.
Four highly polluting enterprises have been shut down to prevent the sources of industrial water pollution. The water reuse project has been promoted around big local corporation's factories including Shagang Group who had the capacity of recycling 100,000 tons waste water every day.
To fight against agricultural diffused pollution, 353 household farms have taken down high pollution stalls and facilities.
The water circulation system in the city has been improved with the completion of major river regulation projects. The city has dredging 986 rural riverbeds and built 171 bridges as well as 36 ecological riverbeds.
The city will strive to keep making progress in water pollution control in the next two years, said a government official.
